An Elevated Vacays local guide | Part 1
Planning a fall trip to Broken Bow, Oklahoma? Save this one.
We asked our founder and Cabin Curator, Judy, to share the kind of fall day she’d actually recommend, right down to where she’d pick up lunch and where she’d take it.
Her approach? Leave room to enjoy where you are.
No racing from one attraction to the next. No trying to squeeze every activity into a single weekend. Just a few favorite stops, beautiful views, and plenty of time to enjoy the cabin you came to stay in.
Here’s how she’d spend a fall day in Broken Bow.
1. Go Horseback Riding with Riverman Trail Rides
There’s something about exploring Broken Bow on horseback that makes the experience feel a little different.
Trade the car for a saddle and spend some time taking in the wooded scenery at a slower pace.
Horseback riding with Riverman Trail Rides is a memorable way to experience the outdoors, especially if you’re looking to add a little adventure to your fall cabin getaway.
It’s the kind of experience that gives everyone something to talk about later, especially when you’re back at the cabin together.
Judy’s tip: Check availability and riding requirements before your trip, especially if you’re visiting on a fall weekend.

2. Pick Up Lunch and Find a Spot Along the Mountain Fork River
Our favorite kind of lunch reservation? One that comes with a river view.
Pick up something delicious from a local favorite, bring a picnic blanket, and find a designated spot to enjoy lunch near the Mountain Fork River.
The sound of the water, the surrounding trees, and an afternoon with nowhere you need to rush off to.
Sometimes that’s all you need.
Judy’s tip: Local 259’s grab-and-go smoked chicken salad with the pretzel chips! Smoky, packed with flavor and seriously SO Good and Easy!

3. Take the Scenic Route Through Beavers Bend State Park
Some drives are worth taking without a particular destination in mind.
Fall is one of our favorite times to explore Beavers Bend State Park, when the surrounding forest begins changing colors and the winding roads make even a simple drive feel like part of the getaway.
Roll down the windows, put on your favorite playlist, and take the scenic route. Pull over where it’s safe, enjoy the views, and give yourself permission to spend a little longer somewhere beautiful.
Judy’s tip: Don’t pack your schedule so tightly that you miss the little stops along the way. Sometimes those become your favorite part of the trip.

4. Take in the Views at Cedar Bluff
Some places are worth visiting simply for the view.
Cedar Bluff is the kind of stop that invites you to linger a little longer, take in the surrounding scenery, and appreciate why fall in Broken Bow feels so special.
Bring your camera, take your time, and enjoy a moment that doesn’t need an itinerary.
Judy’s tip: Leave a little flexibility in your day for scenic stops like this. They’re often the moments you remember most.

5. And Then? Head Back to the Cabin.
Because the day doesn’t have to end when you leave the river.
Maybe it’s a little time in the hot tub, dinner on the deck, a favorite movie, or gathering around the fire after the sun goes down.
We love sharing things to do in Broken Bow, but we also believe where you stay should be part of what makes the trip special.
That’s the Elevated Vacays way.
